B.Com (Honours)
B.Com (Honours) is a specialized course which is offered only by a few colleges in the country. Admission to this course is through an entrance examination by Osmania University.
The course aims to evolve mathematically oriented business professionals with high degree of quantitative problem and solving skills. They are trained and educated in functionalities such as marketing, human resources, finance and operations management and thus enabling to take-up a challenging career in business leadership.
First Year
Students would be learning managerial economics consumer and producer behavior in the context of resource allocation among competitive uses and application. It discusses the importance of government in business, income distribution and growth. In organization and management the subject unfolds the structural realities of managing the business in the modern world. However in financial accounting, the students are introduced to basic framework of accounting, preparation of accounts including finalization relating to sole proprietorship, partnership, accounting for special businesses such as consignment and joint ventures and depreciation.
Second Year
Students in second year are given an indepth understanding of technical and theoretical aspects of accounting, taxation banking, insurance, business statistics, auditing. Students are helped to grasp theoretical perspective relevant to core business decision making areas in order to obtain credit transfer that needs the educational requirements of professional accounting associations.
Third Year
In third year, students acquire knowledge in business and corporate laws about meaning of contract, agreement, essential elements of a valid contract, capacity to contract, remedies for breach of contract and about of sale of goods and environmental protection act, e-registration, etc and lastly, the four P's of marketing enables a student to juggle together the products, the price. From economic environment of business a student gains insight about the various aspects of business and the importance of changes affecting it. In taxation, students are informed about basic provisions of Indian taxation which includes direct and indirect taxes. They will learn the various provisions relating to compensation of tax liability of various persons like individual, HUF, firm, AOP, BOI and other local authorities. They also learn about provisions relating to indirect taxes including sales tax, VAT, excise duty, customs etc. The student would be exposed to issues connected with functional management issues such as human resource management and finance and thus enabling them to get ready for a challenging career as a business professional.
Course Outcome
The student will understand the legal formalities involved in a business contract. Students would have basic foundation which would enable them to pursue taxation as a profession. This course enables the student to show competent and consistent performance in communication. Students will be able to develop basic planning and organizing skills through project-work. Students are well-equipped with mathematical and analytical skills which will help them to reach the standards of premier institutions. Students will be in a position to analyze the financial statements, capital structures, dividend policies of the companies, to understand the human resource policies and marketing strategies adopted by the companies.
Eligibility
Candidates who have passed the Intermediate Public Examination conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, A.P., or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with any group with aggregate marks prescribed by the university are eligible for admission to B.Com (Honours) 1 Year Course. It is also necessary that the students are required to write an entrance examination to be conducted by the Osmania University and then attend the counselling through which admissions are to be completed.
